Maxwell
Myers

I received my MA in Psychology from Brandman University, formally part of the Chapman University system. I've worked extensively with those who are just coming out of homelessness suffering from a wide-range of disorders including depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia, and PTSD. Many times, these disorders have been compounded by an additional substance abuse problem.

Prior to this, I was a working actor for live entertainment venues. After receiving my BFA in Acting from Cal State Fullerton, I became an accomplished performer for theme parks and live entertainment venues all across California and Las Vegas performing for high-profile guests and networks such as Netflix and Starz.

  • What I Currently Do

I provide coaching to help individuals reach their goals. At this time, I do not provide mental health or psychotherapy services through this website.

  • About my Training

I received my MA in Psychology from Brandman University, part of the Chapman University system. Since then, I have worked with dozens of clients struggling with clinical mental illness such as generalized anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. The vast majority of my work is in the non-profit sector with those just coming out of homelessness.

  • My Accreditation

Currently, I am an APCC, an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor. What that means is, while I’m licensed to some degree to offer clinical psychotherapy services, this clinical psychotherapy work must be supervised. If you do work with me on mental health concerns at the clinical level, it will have to be in that capacity.

  • What's the Difference between Psychotherapy and Coaching?

In a nutshell, psychotherapy is used to treat clinical mental illness, whereas coaching is focused on helping you achieve goals you have. But to view it from another angle, psychotherapy is more focused on you to achieve growth, whereas coaching is more focused on you interacting with your environment to achieve your goals.

For example, imagine a professional athlete who trains with his teammates. His coach is there to guide him and his team to become the most competitive they can be. If that athlete gets injured, however, he has to see a physical therapist to heal by himself. In another example, a mechanic will work on a car to make it the most efficient or fastest it can be, while a coach might train a professional sports driver how to race.

When you hire me as a coach, I am here to understand how you operate and then assist you in using your gifts in achieving what you want.
